George "Candy' Steele was born March 17, 1933 in Mt. Gilead, North Carolina to the late Maston and Maranda Steele. He departed this life on Saturday, Januay 15, 2005. George grew up and was educated in North Carolina. George was employed at Container Corpration of America was a meachinist and retires after 34 1/2 years of service. George also worked as a Chef at Pat's Cafe at 10th & Orange Street part time for 30 years; he also was a member of the United Steel Workers of America Local #15532-H. George served in and was honorably dischared from the United States Army. He was a member of the Mother UAME Church, which he dearly loved. Candy's greatest hobby was attending the football Club neld at the Odd Fellows Social Candy's greatest hobby was attending the football Club held at the Odd Fellow Social Club. George I survived by his wife, Beatrice of 39 years; one daughter, Deborah A. Daniels-Britt; 3 granddaughters, Karla L. Daniels- Britt, Kimberley L. Moore and Kandis L. Hardings; 9 great grandchildren, Karlo, Kar'Ryn, Kevin and Kyshaad Britt, Kyshaan and Khyla Moorw, Khy Duker, Kassell and Kemuel Hardings; 1 great great grandson, KaiMyhre Britt jackson whom he called his "Little Chinaman"; 2 grandson-in-laws, Randall Moore and Marcus Hardings; 1sister, Maxine Little of Church Hill, North Carolina; 1 sister-in-law, Janet Fountaine of Newark, DE. George was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 1 brother. he has many loving nieces and nephews and friends. George was loved very much by all who knew him.
