Gardner S. " Yogi " Powell

On Tuesday, April 6, 2021, Gardner Scott Powell, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 57. Born October 26, 1963, in Wilmington, Delaware, he was the youngest of 4 children.

At a young age, Gardner received his nickname "Yogi" as he could imitate Yogi the Bear voice perfectly, among other beloved cartoon characters. Shortly after high school, he married his high school sweetheart Linda Palmatary. Together they raised 2 daughters, Lindsay and Jennifer, and remained married for 33 years before his passing.

Yogi was a true Jack-of-All-Trades. He learned to become a hard worker from a very young age and he was always eager to learn new things and find ways to help people. He could throw together shelving, build anything you asked him to, carry a refrigerator (by himself), repair a roof, build a deck and successfully throw on his corporate hat and manage a couple dozen employees. His beloved Amazon.com employees always remember his charismatic smile and his laugh even on a bad day.

He was quick witted, knowledgeable, and charming; many remember him as a lively and animated man who loved his girls deeply. Family was really big to Yogi and he always pushed for the family to spend more time together; He wanted us to be a unit and a pillar for the years to come.

Gardner was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Powell (Berry), his sister Cecelia (Allen), and his brother Earl (Berry). He is survived by his wife Linda (Palmatary), his two daughters Lindsay and Jennifer, his grandson Calen Jr. (McWilliams), his brother Wyatt (Powell), and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

The Viewing will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00pm on Saturday April 17th, 2021 at the House of Wright Mortuary, 208 E. 35th Street, Wilmington, DE 19802.

The family will be holding a "happy hour" directly after the viewing with refreshments & food for everyone to celebrate Yogi's life and share memories of all the stories you have shared with him, at Delaware Association of Police located at 2201 Lancaster Avenue; Wilmington, DE 19805.
