Frederick Hubbard Whittington

February 19, 1921 — March 17, 2004

Age 83 departed this life on Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE. He was educated in Somerset County public schools. Starting in a 1-room schoolhouse and progressing to high school, he graduated in 1937 as valedictorian of his class from Crisfield Colored High School in Crisfield, MD. A proud veteran of World War II, he often shared stories of the allied forces triumphant entrance into France. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern American Theatre Service Ribbon, and the Victory Ribbon. While he enjoyed many hobbies, his favorites were landscaping and gardening. An avid sports enthusiast, he excelled in baseball. He coached many Buttonwood and Rose Hill Little League baseball teams to championships. He leaves to mourn his wife, Naomi; 2 children, Ronald and Joyce; 1 daughter-in-law, Marilyn; and 2 grandchildren, Austin and Colby Whittington. He also leaves 1 brother, John Whittington; 4 sisters, Thelma Greene, Ollie Lewis, Blanche Johnson and Odessol Whittington; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
