Frederick E. Hawkes, Sr., 81, passed into eternal glory on September 16, 2024, in Wilmington, Delaware at Accent Care Hospice. He was born the sixth child to the late Robert E and Laura J. Hawkes, Jr. He was the brother of Frances Bates, Betty Wing, Chester and Sandra Hawkes, as well as the late Robert Driver, Loretta Baise, Beatrice Butcher, Leonard Sr. and Arthur Hawkes, Sr.
Freddy or Fred, as he was affectionately called, grew up on the east side and southbridge of Wilmington, Delaware and attendedpublic schools graduating from Howard High School in 1961. Family was so important to him especially his mother. He was always willing to help out his siblings.
This care and concern carried over to how he raised his children; always being there for them. He would be seen with his late son Freddy all the time. They would detail cars together. He lovedwhenever his daughters Stephanie and Robin would come visit from out of town. Fred could be seen with his daughter Charmaine rocking Eagles gear. Terry’s calls would give him joy. Whenever his grandchildren would come over, he truly enjoyed their visits.
Frederick was employed by Persia Rug Company, Silo’s Electronics Story and finally the DuPont Company where he retired. He had a great work ethic, always being on time, finishing what he started, following instructions and being respectful. Frederick was a joy to work with.
Freddy always loved to build things. He loved cars; having a clean car was especially pleasing to him. Freddy loved to detail cars and was still detailing cars until his recent illness. Drag racing was his other passion; you could find him watching it on the television when he no longer went to Cecil County to watch the races. An avid Eagles fan, Freddy would fly his flag in his yard and would dress in his Eagles gear whenever they played.
Frederick never forgot his spiritual roots; he joined Union Baptist Church. He was their unofficial security guard --watching the church from his house across the street. Freddyenjoyed life, be it with family or friends. He was a true, gentlemen, a real man many looked up to. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
