Flora M Benson

Flora M. Benson, affectionately known as Flora was born on June 7, 1928 and went home to be with the Lord, her husband and sons on Wednesday, December 7, 2004. Flora was the daughter of the late Mary Martin and William Henderson. She received her early childhood education in Wilmington, DE., later attending the Mississippi Boarding School and received her High School Diploma in Delaware. She became a a Community Activist volunteering for the Community Action Programs and worked at the Leroy's Style Shop in the late 60's & 70's. Flora was united in holy matrimony to the Robert Lee Benson and from this union nine children were born: Sheila, Blair, Sandy Bruce, Kirk, Clark, Michael(deceased), Deborah and Carlton Louis (deceased). An older "son", Robert Anderson (deceased) was later reunited with sisters and brothers. Flora was former member of the Zenith Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Stars. In 1990, she became a member of the Greater St. John Baptist Church were she served as the church secretary, usher board and any other auxiliaries. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Benson. She leaves to be blessed with her memories; 3 sons, Bruce E., Kirk L., and Clark Benson; 4 daughter, SheilaP. Jones, Blair Y., Sandra L., and Deborah L. Benson; 1 son-in-law Harold L.Stith; 3 daughter-in-laws, M. Sheila Dorsey, Shirley Commodore and Charlene(Pinchie) Benson; 1 brother, Melvin "Sonny" Henderson;2 sister-in-laws, Dorthy Harris and Leona Henderson; 2 brother-in-laws, William A. Benson and Richard Scott; 32 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; "adpoted" children, Rosalinf W.
