Erna Carter

Erna Lee Carter, 79, of Newark, Delaware, peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on June
23, 2022, at the Christiana Care Health Services, Newark, Delaware.
Erna Lee Taylor was born January 1, 1943, to the late Curtis Sr. and Aileen Brooks Taylor in
JenkinJones, West Virginia. She received her education in West Virginia, graduating from the
Gary District High School in 1960. Immediately after graduation, Erna and her brother Curtis Jr
left West Virginia on a Greyhound bus to spend the summer in the Bronx with their maternal
aunt and uncle until their parents moved up North to settle in Paterson, NJ. It was in Patterson
where she fell in love and married the lve of her life, the late Robert Elliott Carter on September
29, 1962. They raised three children and were married for 59 years.
Erna completed two years of college at Montclair State University. She worked for Boston
Scientific as a. Manager in the Word-Processing department for 23 years and retired at age 55.
Also, Erna was a successful Avon Representative for over 40 years, receiving numerous sales
recognition, achievement awards, and vacations.
Erna was a genuinely virtuous and diligent worker. She took excellent care of her family, shared
her wisdom, and showed trustworthiness and loyalty to her family and friends. She was prudent
and a wise money manager. Erna made sure to protect the financial security of her family. In
other words, she was the chief financial officer in her home.

Erna's faith in God and the example of Christ that she showed in her everyday life exemplified a
Proverbs 31 woman. Erna was a true role model to her family and those who knew her. Erna
loved attending the Coal Mining Communities reunions that occurred biennially, traveling, and
organizing affordable vacations and cruises for friends and family. She also maintained one on
one relationships with her grandchildren. Her favorite pastime was logging into Facebook,
allowing her to chat with all of her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

We rejoice in the assurance of her salvation and the promise that she is walking with the Lord.
Erna confessed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age. In West Virginia she was a member of
the Jenkin Jones Community Church on the Hill. In New Jersey she was a member of the Good
Shepherd Baptist Church for over 25 years. Erna served as a Sunday School Teacher and was
later appointed Superintendent of Sunday School. She was also a member of the Praise and
Worship Choir named the "Voices of Hope". Her favorite scripture promise was John14: 2-3
"In my father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to
prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and
receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also"
.
Her family will cherish the fond memories of Erna, a virtuous woman: : One Daughter Sandra
Anderson (Stanley), and two sons Barry Carter (Christine), and Brian Carter (Peggy). 9
Grandchildren: Jerome Carter, Douglass Bryant (Altonia), Shinelle Elwin (Macdale), Trevor

Anderson , Stanley Terrell Anderson (Kendal) , Tiffany Anderson, Jazmine Carter, Taylor Carter
,and Jayla Carter. Two Great Granddaughters, Sydney Elwin and Charlie Anderson. Two
Honorary Daughters her nieces, Karen Taylor and Sharen Woodley, "The Twins ." Two
Brothers; Curtis and Timothy Taylor, One Sister, Curtenia Davis, One Maternal Uncle, Shelly
Eugene Brooks (Karen), One Brother in Law Phillip Carter, and Two Sisters in Laws, Carole
Carter, Arleta Salmond, Dorothy Taylor, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted
friends.
