Elizabeth Mittie Heady

Elizabeth Mittie Heady entered eternal life on Wednesday, June 25, 2008. Born in Chester, PA on October 6, 1933, daughter of the late William and Kathryn Zeigler. She was the wife of the late Otis A. Heady, Jr. with whom she shared 39 years of marriage. She was one of the first African-Americans to be licensed in nursing in the state of Pennsylvania. She was employed as an LPN at the Christiana Hospital until her retirement in 1993. She is survived by her children, Kathryn Veney (Bernard) of New Castle, Mary Heady-McCollum (John) of New Castle, Otis A. Heady III of Wilmington, Odessa Heady-Gibbs (Joseph) of Wilmington and Carol Pryce of Newark; stepson, Herbert Johnson; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.
