Edgar Oden

Edgar R. Oden - affectionately known as Slim and Peter Rabbit
was born on Sunday, December 19, 1948 to the late Robert Oden
and Anna (Chilton) Oden in Berlin, New Jersey.
He was the seventh of ten children and received his formal
education in the Philadelphia School System.
Edgar had a heart and skill for carpentry. He attended Bok
Technical Vocational School where he further enhanced his
carpentry skills resulting in carpentry becoming his life profession.
He became a carpenter by profession in 1971 until he retired in
2003 with over 30 years of experience but still could not fully let
go as he took on various other small jobs in his field at such
places as the Philadelphia Art Museum, etc.

Edgar was raised to believe in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
and by faith and belief he was born again and embraced his
Salvation in the knowledge and personal experience of knowing
Christ for himself and as his personal Savior! He loved to Praise
The Lord and enjoyed attending church service as often as he
could prior to his health failing. He had a deep love and respect
for his pastor and his church family. While at Seeds of
Greatness, he graciously served in the Usher Ministry. Edgar was
a dapper dresser and enjoyed dressing in his numerous colorful
well-matched suits, ties, and shoes for church.
In his leisure, Edgar loved, loved, loved, spending time with his
family, especially the Brothers Monthly Breakfast! He enjoyed

keeping up with his nieces, nephews, and cousins via FaceBook
and via the telephone. Brother Ed also enjoyed putting puzzles
together and playing games on his cell phone.
Brother Ed was an extremely friendly person. He also had a
gentle smile that preceded him and a witty character that defined
him. He enjoyed socializing and meeting people. Even during his
illness, he met and acquainted himself with a faithful, loving, and
devoted friend - Ms. Darlene Jiminez who loved him
unconditionally - A Proverbs 18:24 friend - ……and there is a
friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
On Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the age of 73 years, 9
months and 5 days, The Lord in All His Wisdom, transitioned our
beloved Edgar R. Oden from labor to rest! He was preceded by
his parents, his three sisters - Anna Marie Johnson, Clara Neal
and Octavia James, and a brother, Robert (Bob) L. Oden Jr.
Cherishing his memory is his son, Terrance Oden (Corrine), three
grandchildren, Zuriel - Zion and Trinity, his brothers, David,
Gerald (Dorothy), Gregory (Robin), Elroy (Donna), Kenneth and
his younger sister, Robyn (Justino). He also leaves precious
memories of a tremendous amount of nieces, nephews, cousins
and friends.
