Dwight Daniel Hinton, affectionately known as “Danny,” was born on August 22, 1957, in Milford, Delaware, to James and Thelma Hinton. After a life well lived, Dwight departed this world peacefully on March 9, 2025, in Newark, Delaware, at the age of 67.
A devoted family man, Dwight’s love for his family was evident throughout his life. He met his soulmate, Delores Thomas, in 1977, and they were united in holy matrimony in 1981, spending almost 44 years together building a loving and strong family. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters, Shekeena Bordley (Anthony) and Kia Drew (Nelson), who were the light of his life. Dwight also embraced his role as a father to CaShana Howell, who became a part of his life and family.
Dwight was one of eight children, and he shared a bond of love and laughter with his siblings: Lionel Hinton (Bernice), Brenda Bynum, William Hinton (Deborah), Bernard Hinton, and Carl Hinton. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Thelma Hinton, and his siblings, James (Jimmy) Hinton and Patty (Pat) Hinton. His family was his pride and joy, and he leaves behind a cherished legacy through his grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and countless close family and friends who will continue to carry his memory forward.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Dwight served with honor and was discharged in 1980. He received The Good Conduct Medal and the Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar. His work ethic and dedication were unwavering throughout his career, which spanned various industries. In his later years, Dwight found fulfillment in his role at Chimes Delaware and Easter Seals where he spent many years before retiring.
Dwight was an active member of Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church, where he faithfully served in the AV and Koinonia ministries, as well as the Men’s Fellowship and Security team. His deep faith was a guiding light in his life, and he valued the relationships he built within his church community.
A man of many talents, Dwight was an avid sports enthusiast during his high school years, excelling in football, basketball, track, and wrestling. His love for sports continued throughout his life, and he was always ready to cheer on his favorite teams and share in the joy of a good game. One of his favorite teams was the Los Angeles Rams. When he wasn’t enjoying sports, Dwight was the life of the party—his laughter and infectious personality filled every room he entered. Whether it was watching TV, listening to music, or simply being surrounded by family, Dwight had a gift for making others smile and feel loved.
Dwight’s legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of his loved ones. May his soul rest in peace.
