Dorothy Hogan departed this life on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Christiana Hospital.
She was a graduate of Howard High School. She was the first minority to be hired as a cashier at the Wilmington Dry Goods Department Store in Wilmington. She was also the first minority female to rise to the position of facility's manager. She retired from Dry Goods after 27 years of service.
She was a resident in apt 7G in the Windsor Apartments at 500 N. Walnut Street in Wilmington, Delaware for 40 years. She was a member of the Tenant Council and participated in many community service activities.
On July 27, 2012 Mrs. Hogan became a resident at the Franciscan Care Center in Hockessin, Delaware.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy M. Hogan
Mrs. Hogan is survived by her one son, Nathaniel I. Hogan Jr. Master Sergeant, US Army Retired, his wife, Rosemarie C. Hogan of Woodbridge, Virginia; her two daughters, Brenda P. Massey, her husband Harold Massey of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Debra A. Burrell, her husband , John Burrell of Amherst, Virginia and her very special/wonderful niece Sharon L. Jones, her husband Charles M. Jones and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 12 pm to 2 pm at House of Wright, 208 E. 35th St., Wilm., DE. Celebration of Life will follow the viewing.
Interment will take place at Riverview Cemetery.
