Dorothy Elizabeth Smith (Dottie) was born October 20, 1932 to the late Willie Davis born Dec. 25, 1910 and deceased Feb. 27, 1959 and Hilda Way Davis was born Nov. 13, 1912 and deceased Marc. 10, 1991. She departed her life on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Christian Hospital. She graduated from Pigeon Street Elementary School and Reynolds High School. She belonged to the Church of God of Prophecy. She was married to Maxim R. Smith and from this marriage, there was nine children , Ronnie H., Timothy R. Darlene A. and Glen H. Davis, James C., Stephen A. and Tyrone D. McGee, Maxim Z. Jr. and Charles Smith. Dorothy graduated from Wilford Beauty Academy and operated her own business "Hair E+Cetera" with her long time friend and partner, Michael Davis for 29 years. Dorothy was an active volunteer in the New Castle School District. She was an avid and champion bowler for over 30 years until health issues forced her to retire from the sport in 2000. Always the sports fan, she followed professional and collegic sports. Precededed in death, husband Maxim R. Smith in 2007; 3 sons, Ronnie H.Davis in 1953, James C. McGee in 1978, Maxim Smith, Jr in 2006. She is survived by a daughter, Darlene A. Davis (Johnell), Glen H. Davis (Rosilyn), Stephen A. McGee (Mary), Tyrone D. McGee and Charles Smith (Lilly); 4 brothers, Bishop Raymond E. Davis (Gwendolyn) of Jacksonville, FL., Muriel H. Davis and Kenneth E. Davis of Asheville, NC; 3 sisters, Betty E. Brathwaite (Terry) of Alexandria, LA, Pauline Alexander (Fred) of Canton, NC and Mary L. Campbell of Asheville, NC; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 aunt, Nina Midget of Middletown, DE and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008 at 2:00PM and The House of Wright Mortuary and viewing will be from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM.
