Dora Mae Faulkner

December 12, 1934 — July 8, 2022

Dora Mae Faulkner, eldest daughter of the late Walter, Sr. & Hazel Brown, was born on December 12, 1934 in Wilmington, De.
She peacefully departed this life on Friday July 8, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Dora received her early education in the Wilmington Public School System and she attended Howard High School.

Dora was affectionately known to her family as Sissy. She will be remembered for her stern but loving personality. Dora was never a social person but always looked forward to The Brown Family reunions. Dora was known at that function for her potato salad. Dora specialized in making dishes specifically for the tastebuds of her children. Dora also enjoyed watching basketball. Her favorite players were Patrick Ewing, Daryl Dawkins and her #1 favorite player, Allen Iverson. She was always ready to defend him, no matter who you were!

Dora joined Central Baptist Church when it was located on 8th & Kirkwood Sts. and was baptized by the late Rev. Arthur R. James. She was active up until a few years ago. Dora enjoyed watching the young children attend church and would volunteer from time to time at Vacation Bible School.

Dora's first job was under a program that hired hall monitors in the public school system. She was assigned to Bancroft Middle School where quickly she had a reputation for being tough but fair with the students. As adults, Dora would run into these individuals and they would hug her and praise her for not backing down. Later, Dora would be employed through a program developed by Wilmington Housing Authority that would house Site-Managers in the newly built Senior High Rises. Once that program was dissolved, she was hired as a Site-Manager at West Center City Senior Center where her main job was to check and assist on the elderly on the west side of Wilmington, making sure their needs were met personally and financially. Dora's last place of employment was with Wilmington Senior Center where she assisted seniors with finding employment and keeping statistics for the program.

Dora was preceded in death by her husband Harold B. Faulkner, Sr., son Herbert L., two grandsons, Anthony Faulkner, Sr., & Clemial Faulkner, Jr., siblings: Walter Brown Jr. Charles Butcher, Hortense Taylor, George Brown, Lawrence Brown, Sr. & Carolyn Brown.
