Derro Smith

Derro D. Smith, Sr. affectionately know as "Smitty", "Jackie", "Snubbs" and "Teddy" was born to Elloree Smith and the late Charles R. Smith, Sr. on September 11, 1961 in Timmonsville, South Carolina. GOD called his beloved son home on February 13, 2007 at the St. Francis Hospital. Derro attended Brockington Elementary School in Timmonsville, South Carolina. At the age of ten years old he moved to Wilmington, Delaware where he attended Bancroft Elementary School. Smitty graduated from Howard High School. He joined the New Hope Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board for four years and was the Director of the Young Adult Choir. He also played in various churches throughout including: United Independent Methodist Church and the Greater St. John Baptist Church. In 2002 GOD lead him to New Calvary Baptist Church where he served as the lead musician. Teddy loved worshipping and praising GOD despite all he had endured. Derro worked various jobs in the City of Wilmington. In 1981 he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves where he served his country for four years. He worked at Luther Towers housing unit until his health began to fail. On July 8, 2006 he was united in Holy Matrimony to Tina Leshea Jackson. Derro was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles R. Jr., Keith E. and Matthew Smith. He leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife, Tina Leshea Smith and their son, Ci
