Derek L. Akins, Jr. (Rek) was born on July 21, 1992 in Milford, DE to Latoya Hill and Derek Akins, Sr. Derek passed on October 8, 2020 at his home in Salem, NJ.
Derek received his early childhood education from Penns Grove/Carney's Point School District. Rek graduated from Ranch Hope in Vineland, NJ.
Derek had many hobbies. Among them was hanging out with his friends, basketball, and spending time with his family.
Derek was preceded in death by his grandmother, Robin L. Hill and his aunt, Shirley M. Hill.
Derek is survived by his parents, Latoya Hill and Derek Akins, Sr.; his children Nyh'la Camille West, Levi Armond Money West, Layla Dior Aaliyah Akins, and Jah'mir Derek Andre Akins; brother Leslie Hill and sister Candeisha Hill; paternal grandmother, Atleta Akins; maternal grandfather, Frankie Hickman; step-grandfather, Harry Coxen and a host of other relatives and friends.
