Decosta M. Martin

August 14, 1953 — March 8, 2024

DeCosta Martin, a cherished member of our community, was born on a bright day in 1953 at

Wilmington General Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. He was a resident of Churchman

Village nursing home until he succumbed to his illness in the Christiana Hospice Ward at the

young age of 70. His journey was marked by love, resilience, and unwavering commitment.


Life and Achievements:

 Education: DeCosta graduated from Delcastle Technical High School, where he laid the

foundation for a life of learning and growth.


 Military Service: DeCosta served our nation with honor, earning an honorable

discharge from the Army on October 17, 1986. His dedication to duty and sacrifice

exemplified the best of our armed forces.


 Business Legacy: As the proud proprietor of Together Auto Motors, DeCosta

contributed significantly to our local economy. His fair dealings and commitment to

quality service left an indelible mark.


 Truck Driver for Tri State Grouting: Supervised a crew of 5 working up and down the

east coast to fix numerous repair jobs. A great leader and well respected by his peers.

o Annet Grier shared two decades of companionship and love with DeCosta.

o DeCosta was a devoted member of the Cornerstone Fellowship Church in

Wilmington, Delaware. His unwavering faith guided him through life’s

challenges.

7. Parents: 

o DeCosta was the beloved son of the late Marie Lewis (mother) and Lewis W

Martin Sr. (father).

8. Extended Family:

o He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members,

including:

 Nieces: Serena Wilson Archie (husband Anthony Archie), Carenda

Martin, Brianja McCain, Brittany Martin, Justice Dixon

 Nephews: Lewis Martin III (wife Christine Martin), Anthony Martin Jr

Passions and Legacy

DeCosta’s infectious smile brightened every room he entered. He loved music, sports, and

working on cars. His impeccable sense of style always included a well-chosen hat. But above all,

DeCosta’s willingness to help others defined his character.

As we bid farewell to this remarkable soul, let us celebrate his life, honor his memory, and find

solace in the legacy he leaves behind.
