Cynthia Nelson

March 12, 1948 — October 2, 2019

Cynthia Lindsey born on March 12, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Ollie and Willie Miller. She received her wings on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 peacefully at home. Cindy as she was affectionately known as, received her early education in the public schools of Chicago and graduated from Bloom Township High School in 1966. After school, Cindy worked various jobs before moving to Wilmington, Delaware. In 1969, she married Alfred A. Nelson, III and from that union 2 children were born Remona, better known as Chrissy and Alfred the 4th, better known as Alex or Al. Cindy went on to raise her family and work full time. She retired from DuPont in 1989, but went on to continue working at Toy R Us and finally Trans Union. Cindy was a FAITHFUL and devoted member of St. Paul U.A.M.E. Church where she served as a Steward and a Missionary. She participated in several ministries including the kitchen ministry and heading the church's annual Christmas Bazaar every December. Cindy enjoyed traveling which took her to Brazil and Italy as well as other places but she especially loved cruising with her children and extended family. When she wasn't traveling Cindy spent her free time at home watching murder mysteries on the Hallmark Channel and cooking. Her love of cooking and baking made everyone smile even at church where she was also known for her infamous 5 flavor pound cake. Although Cindy worked two jobs for many years (three jobs at one point) she loved shopping and taking day trips with her daughter. If you saw Cindy you know Chrissy wasn't far behind. They were inseparable. Recently she spent more time with her son Alex, taking him to his weekly treatments and an occasional visit to Ihop. ‘MomMom Cindy' also had a special relationship with her granddaughter Kiyara. She spent time teaching her to cook and wash clothes among other life skills. Cindy loved her family and more importantly, her family loved her. Cindy leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted daughter, Remona Christine Nelson; a loving son, Alfred Alexander Nelson IV (Edna); granddaughters, Kiyara Hartage and Daziah Terrell; grandson, Evan Thomas; great grandson, Dallas Waters; sister in law, Tammy Nelson Williams (Luther); god-sister, Rev. Alberta Ware; god-daughter, Melanie Morrow (Michael); loyal friends Doris Hall, Gwen Robinson, and Regina ; her St. Paul Church family, as well as a host of extended family, friends and associates.
