Constance C. Stewart, 60, of New Castle, Delaware, was born in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Oliver and Lorece Stewart. She went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 12, 2023. Connie was the youngest of seven children, five brothers, and one sister, Shirley, who predeceased her.
Connie attended Wilmington public schools for her elementary and middle school education. She fought hard to keep up with her older brothers, ever the sports competitor, to make them proud. She learned to run track by imitating her brother Shelby at his track and field events. She graduated from Christiana High School in Newark where she was known for her athleticism, lettering in track and field, even achieving all-state in 110 meter high hurdles. She went on to attend college at Delaware State University.
Connie married Fred Lilly, and from this union her sons Tony and Terrence were born. Connie’s family was her greatest love. She lavished love and affection on her three granddaughters. Connie was a persistent hard worker and always on the go, selfishly giving of her time, seemingly caring for others more than herself. She had ceaseless energy and was filled with happiness and spirit. Connie was modest and compassionate in her ways, humble in spirit and a true friend.
Connie attended St. Matthews Baptist Church in Williamstown, New Jersey with her family and late mother for many years. We remember her warmth, love, generosity and joyful spirit. Today, our hearts are broken as we mourn the sudden loss of our beloved mother and little sister. We take comfort in knowing she is now genuinely unbound and once again with our beloved mother whom she missed and grieved for painfully.
Connie leaves to cherish her memories, sons Tony and Terrence, her grandchildren Andrea, Deja Browne and Empress Alease, five brothers Jesse Walters of Deland, Florida, Oscar Stewart of Wilmington, Shelby Stewart of Newark, Richard Stewart (Terry) of Mooresville, North Carolina and Robert Stewart (Rhonda) of Newark and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
