Cleo Roosevelt Moore was born on March 11th 1930 in Florence, NJ, to
James Wilbert Moore and Ida Mae Kornegay, second of two boys and the
sixth child. He passed on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023 at his
daughter’s home in New Castle Delaware.
Roosevelt, as his Philadelphia family called him, received his early
education from Florence Township, NJ. Right after school, he enlisted
in the Air Force and loved serving his country as an M.P. in the
Korean War.
After his Honorable Discharge, Roosevelt moved to Philadelphia and
worked in a cluster of jobs in and around the area as: a mail carrier
at the Philadelphia Post Office, a driver for Schmidt’s Beer, and one
of a few black milkmen in that era. In his later years, he retired
from the University of Pennsylvania as an office assistant.
Roosevelt was a faithful member of the Deliverance Evangelic Church in
Philadelphia, PA and He was also a Mason. His interests included
airplanes and animals so he spend his pastime attending air shows, dog
shows, horse shows and business expos. He was huge on family and
friends and attended every family function.
Roosevelt was preceded in death by his father, James Wilbert Moore and
mother Ida Mae Kornegay of Florence NJ, his brother Alphonso Moore of
New Jersey, his sisters Lilly Mae Winborn, Pearlletta Stuart, Ida
Dorothy Moore and Ester Franklin all of Pennsylvania.
Roosevelt is survived by his daughters Ronda Ruff of North Carolina
and Lisa Hopson of Delaware; his son Mark Moore of Delaware; his
grandsons Asher Hopson of Delaware and Jordan Siar; of Pennsylvania;
his granddaughter Rayna Hopson of Delaware; his great-grandson Jaymier
Siar of Pennsylvania and a slew of family and friends in and around
the Philadelphia area.
