Clarence Edward Dorsey Sr.

Clarence Edward Dorsey, Sr. was born on April 2, 1931 in Still Pond, Maryland to the late James W. Dorsey, Sr. and Margaret (Johnson) Dorsey. He passed peacefully on Friday, September 16, 2022 at his home in Wilmington, Delaware with his youngest son Mike by his side.

Clarence received his early childhood education in the Wilmington School District. He graduated from Howard High School. After graduating, he was employed by Francis Kelly and Sons Construction.

Clarence was joined in holy matrimony to Geraldine Redden on September 10, 1951. From this blessed union were born 10 children, four sons and six daughters. Clarence was a faithful and cheerful giver to various churches.

Clarence was an avid boxing enthusiast and an amateur boxer in his early teens. He was also a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan which he loved to watch with his son Mike and granddaughter Jeri.

Clarence was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine Redden Dorsey of 54 years, daughter Dolores Collins Broomer, sister Mary Emma Wilmore (August), brothers Charles W. Dorsey, Sr. (Jeannette), James W. Dorsey, Jr., Bernard S. Dorsey (Valerie), and sister-in-law Barbara Dorsey.

Clarence is survived by Clarence E. Dorsey, Jr., James W. Dorsey (Leona), Dorothy R. Broomer (John), Doris G. Johnson, Oliver Dorsey (Hellon), Florine Coleman, Shirley Hicks, Michael Dorsey (Mishelle), Mary Sheila Dorsey-Benson (Bruce), 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Gardenia Moore (Ben) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
