Brother Chester Pettit was born on August 30,1956 in Newark City, NJ to the late Chester Pettit Jr. and the late Luellen Pettit. At the age of sixty-eight, Brother Chester was called to take his rest on February 27, 2025.
Affectionately known as “Chuckie,” Chester began his education in Accomack County Public School System, and later graduated from high school in Tacoma, Washington. He pursued his passion for skilled trades earning two distinguished apprenticeships – one from the Commonwealth of Virginia and another from the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
Chester’s dedication to hard work started at an early age under the guidance of his father. He became a highly skilled carpenter, accumulating over forty-seven years of experience in commercial, residential and maintenance work. Throughout his career, he traveled extensively, contributing to the construction of commercial buildings across various states as a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. In 1993, Chester began working at Wallops Island, NASA. Many years later, he transitioned from a carpenter into the position of Stationary Engineer. After more than three decades of dedicated service, he retired in August 2024, leaving behind a legacy of craftmanship and commitment.
From an early age, Chester was taught the scriptures, and as an adult, he embraced Yahweh’s sacred name. Chester was a devoted participant in the Guiding Light Outreach Ministries (GLOW), an outreach ministry now based in North Carolina. He cherished the Sabbath Bible lessons and studies, led by Pastor Dorothy Webb, making them a highlight of his week. He enjoyed the lively open discussions, also delighted in the array of teas and dainties. More than once he would burst into laughter and ask, “Where is Dan?”
The memory of Brother Chester Pettit will remain, yet his presence will be profoundly missed. He is preceded in death by his son, Steven, his brother Robert and his Aunt Blanche. His Memory is cherished by his beloved wife, Minister Eileen Pettit, Smyrna, DE; His children: Danielle, Sparkle (Ernest), Donny, all of Smyrna, DE; Two brothers: Rodney (Rhonda), Fredericksburg, VA and Ashley Pettit (Kesha), Onancock, VA; Two sisters: Colette Bayside, VA and Robin (Dewann) Ormond Beach, FL; Ten grandchildren: Tah’re (Katelyn), Malik, Zuri, Adrian, Ernest, Jr., Zion, Nahla, Mariah, Dy’Naja and Dereon; One uncle, Pastor Clarence; Three aunts: Margaret, Gustiva and Helen; Three goddaughters: Annette, Jeanette and Elizabeth, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
