Betty J. Robinson

Betty Jane Robinson, age 90, of New Castle, Delaware, peacefully transitioned on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Christiana Hospital. She was born on July 10, 1934, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, to the late Joseph P. Yates Sr. and the late Dorothy I. Yates (Sims).

 Betty received her early education in the West Chester School District and later graduated from West Chester Joint High School.

On January 12, 1952, Betty married the love of her life, Lawrence E. Robinson. Together, they built a beautiful life and were blessed with two daughters, Dorothy and Betty.

Betty had a deep passion for healthcare, which led her to further her education at Brown Vocational School. There, she completed a nursing program and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She dedicated her entire career to General, Memorial, Delaware, and Wilmington Hospital—now known as Christiana Health Care Services—where she served with unwavering dedication, compassion, and expertise. For the last 25 years of her nursing journey, she worked in the Ophthalmology Department, leaving a lasting impact on both colleagues and patients before retiring.

Affectionately known as “Mom” Betty had a zest for life, with family always at the heart of everything she did. She loved traveling, especially to Boston, MA, New York, West Chester, PA, and Greenwood, DE. She also found great joy in attending family gatherings, annual barbecues, reunions, and holiday celebrations, where her warmth and laughter brought everyone together.

A woman of faith, Betty was a devoted member of Scott A.M.E. Zion Church, where she served in multiple roles, including Stewardess, member of the Senior Choir, Sunday School Treasurer, and church Missionary. She was also a former member of The Order of Women Freemasons and The Order of the Eastern Star.

Betty Jane Robinson was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence E. Robinson. Four Brothers: Joseph, Leonard, David and Lawrence Yates. Three Brother In- Laws: Melvin Robinson, Charles Henry Jr. and Donald Priest. Three Sister In- Laws: Lillian Moore, Claretta Louise Kelly and Carolyn Parker Yates and one Son in Law, Hampton E. Minor.

Betty Jane Robinson leaves to cherish her memory: Two devoted daughters, Dorothy I. Minor and Betty Jane Robinson, both of New Castle, DE; Two loyal grandsons, Leonard J. Robinson Sr. (Tomeka) and Michael E. Minor Sr. (Twanda), all of New Castle, DE; Nine great-grandchildren: Leonard Jr. and Markevis Robinson, Nayleh Martin, Felicia Brooker, Asia Brooker-Parquet, India, Twanda, Michael Jr. (Nayrelis) and Marquis Minor, all of New Castle, DE; And Eight great-great-grandchildren; One brother- in-law, Sidney Kelly and One sister-in-law, Victoria M. Ward both of Wilmington, DE;

Two devoted cousins, Richard “Bubby” Priest of Bear, DE, and Barbara Ann Alexander of Silver Spring, MD; Two long time devoted friends, Marcia Blancato of CA and Vivian Giesler of DE ; And a host of additional nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
