Bertha Marie Bordley-Williams came into this world on February 27, 1936 to Elanore Bordley, in
Armstrong, DE. Bertie or Bert as she was affectionately called, attended and graduated from Louis L.
Redding School.
Bertie had no siblings but she was doted on by her mother and grandmother Ella Bordley. Bertie had
17 uncles and aunts who were like her brothers and sisters.
Bertie met and married John H. Williams in 1957, and the Lord blessed this union in 1968, with a
bouncing baby boy.
Bertie was employed at Leeds Travelware from the early 60’s until 1975. At Leeds Bertie had a circle of
friends who liked to go out and party through the week but they always made it to work the next day.
Bertie was a great cook and shared many recipes with her friends who are using those same recipes
today. Bertie would let her friends know the day before that she was cooking muskrats, ahnd none of
them went to the lunch room that day. Nobody could cook muskrat like Bertie. Mmmm, good! Bertie
loved family gatherings and you could always look forward to chicken/dumplings, white potato pies and
homemade yeast rolls.
Bertie was also employed with the Christiana School District as a bus Aid for Challenged children. She
loved working with the children and would often share stories about incidents that happen on the bus
to and from school.
Bertie loved crabs, she could eat them once or twice a week and sometimes she did with the help of her
cousin Rose. If you mentioned crabs her eyes lit up.
Bertie was preceded in death by her mother Elanore Bordley, husband John H. Williams and son John
Craig Williams.
She leaves to cherish her memories grandchildren, Justin, Dakota, Cassandra, James and Reese; one
great-granddaughter, Dixiana; aunt Ruth Tatum; cousin Rose Gillis; devoted caregiver and cousin
Lorraine, with the help of her siblings, Verdell, Bridgie and Darlene; friends, Gladys Hinson, Dee Elliott,
and Doris Jeffers.
