Anthony Albert Fletcher, Sr.

September 10, 1956 — October 11, 2020

A TIME TO BE BORN …. Anthony Albert "Tony" Fletcher, Sr. was born September 10, 1956 in Wilmington, DE to the late Adolphus A. Fletcher, Sr. and Lauretta Mason Fletcher, the second of five children.

A TIME FOR EVERY PURPOSE UNDER THE HEAVENS …. As a child, Tony attended the Wilmington Public Schools and graduated from P.S. DuPont High School where he was an exceptional trombone player in the school band. He performed with the school choir and excelled at track and field events. He was especially outstanding in high hurdle events and held the state record for years. Tony attended Delaware State College for two years on a full athletic scholarship. He later joined the military, serving in the U.S. Army. He served as a Drill Sergeant and often shared how the cadets and junior officers enjoyed him calling cadence during their various drills. Many family members also enjoyed hearing his cadence calls and would ask him to perform. He would smile and do one teasing "run" and stop while still smiling his familiar smile. He also served as a military police officer before retiring from the U.S. Army. He would later become a fitness trainer for the YMCA and Interventionist for the Christina School District. Tony enjoyed serving at Emmanuel Church where he assisted with security detail, Parkview Church in Pike Creek and was a current member of Word of Faith Christian Center in Aston, PA.

A TIME FOR LOVE …. Tony loved music! He was a gifted musician with talents including singing, song writing, playing the trombone, bass and guitar. Tony had a special touch and ear for playing the guitar with a unique warm and delightful expression with the strings. He served for many years playing as a church guitarist, playing throughout his diocese as well as for national events. Tony loved humor! His sense of humor and ability to imitate voices and various personalities were a natural gift. His gifts will be sorely missed.

A TIME TO ENTER INTO THE ARMS OF JESUS … Tony's remarkable legacy is that he loved the Lord and said "yes" to the gospel of Jesus Christ. At a very young age, Tony was saved and baptized as a member of his family church, "The House of God Church."
He left this earth to join his heavenly Father on Sunday, October 11, 2020.

A TIME TO REUNITE … Tony will be reunited with his parents Adolphus A. and Lauretta Fletcher, his brother Jeffrey Daniel Fletcher and nephew Justin A. Graham.

A TIME TO MOURN ….Tony leaves to mourn and cherish his memory, three children, Anthony A. Fletcher, Jr., Yecenia Fletcher-Currie and Gregory Fletcher. He also leaves daughter-in-law Jacqueline Fletcher, son-in-law Roger Currie, grandchildren; Jasmine, DaWhitney, Jaleesa, Jacquelyne, Anthonia, Heaven, Anthony III, Sean and Jadeyn, One sister, Alva Fletcher-Sykes of Lynchburg, VA, two brothers Gregory A.
