Annie Lee Brown-Smith, affectionately known as "Lee", was born on January 12, 1953 in Johnsonville, SC to Gary Lee Brown, Sr. and Thelma Peterson-Brown. She passed peacefully Sunday, October 1, 2017, at her home in New Castle, DE. Annie received her early childhood education from Stuckey Elementary in Johnsonville, SC. She graduated from Wilmington High School. Annie continued her education, graduating from Delaware State Collage in 1974, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in education. After college, she became a teacher and taught third grade in Wilmington, DE. Later Annie worked as a security guard at various department stores. In 1977, she started working for the U.S. Postal Service (Post Office) as a clerk. Annie worked at the Post Office for 38 years, retiring in 2015. Annie was united in holy matrimony to Dale Wesley Smith on May 29, 1982 and from this union, they were blessed with twin daughter, Rolanda and Yolanda. Annie's hobbies included cooking, collecting antiques, reading and going to the movies. She loved her children, grandchildren and worshipping the Lord. Annie was preceded in death by her parents, Gary Lee Brown, Sr. and Thelma Peterson-Brown; sister, Martha Ann Brown;brother, Lonnie Brown, Jr., and her niece, Melissa. Annie leaves to cherish her loving memory, her husband of 35 years, Dale W. Smith; twin daughters, Rolanda and Yolanda Cook; 4 brothers, Gary, Marion (Sara), Alphonzo (Mary), and Paul (Valerie); 2 sisters, Mary Whitely and Ella (Tony) Frye; 3 grandsons, Duvelle, Wesley Dyshon Williams, Damien Thomas and Donovan Darnell Cook; ; brothers-in-law, Donald (Carolyn), Darnell (Tina), David, Douglas (Sandy), Derek (Helen) and Dennis (Lucette); sisters-in-law, Deborah Howard and Doretha (Hayes) Johnson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
