Anne W Brown

Anne Seldon Wright Brown was born on January 14, 1921 in Eastville, VA to William Temple Wright and Sarah E. Winder Wright. She departed this life on July 29, 2009 in Newark, DE. Anne earned her Bachelors Degree in Business education from A&T University, Greensboro, NC in 1942 and her Masters Degree in Education from Columbia University in 1957. Anne also attended the University of Maryland, College Park, MD and University of Delaware, Newark, DE. Anne was a member of St. John African Methodist Church of Newark, DE. She was joined in Holy Matrimony with Vernon W. Brown Jr. on April 7, 1944. From this union, one son, Mark Eldred Brown. Anne was employed by the following: School for Blind & Deaf (1942-1943); Naval Inspector, Elton, MD (1943-1945); George Carver High School (1945-1962); William Henry High School, Dover, DE (1950-1951); Rising Sun High School, Rising Sun, MD (1962-1970) and North East High School, North East, MD (1970-1979). Anne retired in June 1979 after thirty-three years as an Educator. Anne was an Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA), an Eastern Star, an Elk, a Delta Kappa and a Daughter of Isis. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, camping, organ playing and shopping. She was a member of the Pastor's Aide Committee and Treasurer for the Women's Day Committee of St. John AM Church. Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon W. Brown, Jr.; 2 brothers, Albert Wright and William Pope Wright, Sr. and 1 sister, Hettie Ross. She is survived by her son, Mark Eldred Brown; 1 sister, Carolyn Arnell (Charlie); an adored Godson, Perry U. Garnett (Christy); a dedicated friend, Judith Saunders and a host of relatives and friends. Service at 10:00 AM at St. John AM Church, New London Road, Newark, DE. on Saturday, August 8, 2009.
