Alfred Lee Richardson, 63, of Wilmington, Delaware, was a peaceful and loving man who departed this earth on Saturday, December 31, 2011, at the Heartland Hospice House in Wilmington, Delaware. With open arms and a warm smile, Alfred embraced everyone. He took time to find the good in all people, especially those who may have been cast aside or overlooked. He was born in Wyllisburg, Virginia, on Jan. 16, 1948, to Louise A. Richardson and Willie Oscar Richardson. At six years old, the family would move to Wilmington, Delaware, where Alfred received his formal education. Alfred would leave Delaware to serve in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. Upon his return, Alfred began his professional career with Chrysler Motor Co. in Newark before deciding to further his education. He would matriculate to Cheyney University earning a bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1976. He would later receive a master's degree in special education from Antioch University in Philadelphia, PA, and a graduate certification in administration from Wilmington College. Cheyney laid the foundation for a 30-year career with the Red Clay Consolidated School District, where he inspired and nurtured young minds as a teacher and administrator. Alfred cared for his students, often making evening home visits to discuss a student's progress with the entire family. He would end his career in 2007 as an assistant principal at Lewis Elementary after shepherding youth at several schools in the district from elementary to high school. Alfred would continue his military service, retiring in 2005 with 20 years of service in the Delaware Air National Guard. Away from the classroom, Alfred enjoyed traveling, listening to Mississippi blues and was always the last person on a dance floor. He was blessed with two marriages to Betty Richardson and Wanda Tynes-Richardson. Alfred accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior before his passing. He was preceded in death by his father and sister, Caris Richardson. He is survived by his mother, Louise A. Richardson of Wilmington, DE; sons, Kevin Barnes Richardson of Ridgeland, MS, Keenan Lee Kidd of Rochester, NY; and Lamar Lee Richardson of Philadelphia, PA; a granddaughter, Alesa Imani Goodall-Richardson; grandson, Keyon Kidd; sisters, Joyce (Greg) Wilkes of Burnsville, MN; Mary R. Jones of Wilmington, and Laura Richardson of Wilmington; a brother, William T. (Roberta) Richardson of Stafford, Va., and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces nephews and friends to mourn his passing.
