Roger Dean Bacon

May 9, 1960 — October 2, 2018

Roger was born in New York City on May 9, 1960 to David L. Bacon and Geneva Bacon. He was raised in Manhattan, and attended Public and Catholic grade school until the family relocated to East Orange, New Jersey and eventually settled in Neptune, New Jersey. Roger was the eldest of three sons and has always enjoyed learning and exploring the world of electronics and he loved the latest and greatest gadgets. While Roger had little formal education, he certainly learned from the "school of hard knocks". Roger made his way to Wilmington, Delaware more than 25 years ago, where he became a faithful friend at the Franciscan Center (until it closed), and Saint Joseph Catholic Church. He was very informed (and opinionated) about current events, political climate and how to maneuver within the social services network in the city. He was always assisting others in the "system" by showing them where to get meals, clothes or other services" Roger was a self-taught handy-man, carpenter, mechanic, maintenance man and "Jack of all trades" who prided himself on being able to build and repair most things. He worked many odd jobs in the construction and maintenance industries. His skills were vast and he enjoyed sharing his talents with his friends at the Greyhound Bus Station, ShopRite, BP Gasoline Station in Bear, Saint Patrick's Senior Program and his family at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church. Roger was a trustworthy servant at the Bus Station opening and closing the building each day. At Saint Joseph's Roger worked with Deacon Bob Cousar on maintenance projects and helped Loretta Young, parish secretary with a litany of activities. Roger even assisted parishioners with various maintenance projects in their homes. Everyone has their own stories to tell about Roger andhe has left an indelible impact on everyone he encountered. While sometimes rough-around-the-edges, Roger was intelligent, generous and a bit of a guardian angel to many. He was often times in the right location at the right time to help someone in need. Roger was a faithful servant, friend and a devoted member of Saint Joseph's parish and he will be missed by many in the Wilmington community. Roger was preceded in death by his mother Geneva, brother Nelson and grandparents. He will be remembered by his father David, mother Betty, brother Michael, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles along with many friends.
