Nelson S. Brockenborough

Nelson S. Brockenborough was born on October 27, 1945, to Nelson Brockenborough and Jessie A. Brockenborough. He transitioned on April 18, 2023, at home in Wilmington, Delaware.

Nelson (aka Brock) received his early childhood education from Ridgeview School in Hickory, North Carolina. After graduating from Ridgeview High School in 1963, he matriculated to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University (A&T), graduating in 1971. While in Hickory, he worked in several community and municipal ventures including the Catawba County Health and Social Services and Victory Masonic Lodge #745.

Shortly after college he worked in retail sales with the Zerden Men’s Company. Following, he became a marketing specialist with the Superior Cable Company in Hickory, North Carolina. He remained with Superior for several years before being offered a position with Utility Products in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While at Utility Products, Brock changed over to corporate sales.

Nelson was preceded in death by his mother, Jessie Brockenborough and father, Nelson S. Brockenborough, grandparents, Rev. Jessie J. Alexander, and Florence H. Alexander.

He is survived by his spouse, Shirley (of 58 years); sons Darrin (Las Vegas, Nevada), Dennis (Boston, Massachusetts) Nelson P. (Supply, North Carolina) and one daughter, Andrea (Capital Heights, Maryland); grandchildren; Courtney (Chicago, Illinois), Kirstin (Baltimore, Maryland), Shaye (Greensboro, North Carolina), Sidney (Charlotte, North Carolina), Zoe (Greenville, North Carolina), Mayah (Supply, North Carolina), and grandson Nelson P. II; Godson Christopher Tyler Sims (Wilmington, Delaware) and a host of relatives and friends across the country.
