Alphonso Seabrook

OBITUARY ALPHONSO SEABROOK SR.

Alphonso Seabrook, the fourth child born to Willie and Inell Seabrooks August 25, 1940, in Pompano Beach, Florida, departed this life on November 8, 2021. The name Alphonso means, ready for battle and noble, and that's how he lived his life. He was tenacious, resilient, compassionate, and adventurous. Qualities instilled in him by his God-fearing parents.

FAMILY MAN

Alphonso met and married Margo A. Burrell on June 25, 1965, while attending Maryland State College. Fifty-six years of marriage, they were blessed with three beautiful children Rhonda Gail, Renee Inell, and Alphonso Jr.

EDUCATION

Education was strongly encouraged by his parents. Alphonso began his education attending Fairfield Township Public Schools. He went on to Bridgeton High School, where he excelled in the athletic arena. He was awarded many accolades in football and track including letters and trophies. His skillfulness in football earned him a full scholarship to play for Maryland State College, now University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). Alphonso's positions in football were interior lineman, offense, and defense guard. He was also a shot putter in track. While attending college, he was a member of the Industrial Club and the M-Club which required athletic letters in sports. Through all this hard work Alphonso received his first degree from Maryland State, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial Education in 1966. Continuing his education, he received a Master of Education in Special Education from Antioch College, Philadelphia, PA.

From the bean field to the classroom. Al's love for football led him to play semi-pro for the Minnesota Vikings. His family always came first, so Al came back home and taught at Bridgeton High School, where he was also a wrestling coach. Alphonso moved to Delaware and was an Industrial Arts Teacher at Howard High School in Wilmington, DE. After receiving his master's degree, he taught special education in the Colonial School District New Castle, DE.
Transitioning in career was necessary, so Alphonso Beauty Aids and Supplies, specializing in African American hair care, was opened in Wilmington, DE in 1982. Margo and Alphonso worked diligently as entrepreneurs to have successful businesses and opened Split Ends Hair Salon in the late 1980's. They both worked intensely until retirement.

THE CHIEF

Entrepreneurship afforded Al an opportunity to go to Nigeria. He wanted to expand his business to the Mother Land. So he opened a beauty supply business in Nigeria. As he traveled in Africa his stature and demeanor was described in oral tradition of a Great Ghanaian Chief. He was enstooled as Nana Ofori Boadu I, Progressive Chief of Asiakwa, Ghana in 1983. A CHIEF WAS BORN! Nana raised money for much needed wells, schools, and medical supplies. Traveling extensively Alphonso oversaw many trips to Africa escorting many family and friends to the Mother Land.

A TIME FOR FUN

When you walked into his business you were sure to hear Motown Oldies playing in the background. His sense of humor often made him the life of the party. Al loved to play cards with his siblings and family friends. He loved being with family and would travel near or far to make sure everyone was alright. A football game was sure to be on TV, if he was in the room, and a large piece of cake on a plate.

He leaves cherished memories with his loving and devoted wife Margo; loving daughter Renee Seabrook-Hart of Clayton, NJ; his name's sake Alphonso Seabrook Jr. New Castle, DE; Brother's Clarence Seabrooks (Yvette) Hempstead, NY, Arthur Seabrooks of Bridgeton, NJ; Sister Thelma Seabrooks Bridgeton, NJ; Brother in Law Dean Burrell (Valerie) of Berlin, MD; Sister in Law Denise Burrell-Johnson Baltimore, MD, Veronica Burrell of Princess Anne, MD; Three adoring, loving, and cherished grandchildren Stephen A. Hart (Vanessa) Clayton, NJ, Samuel H. Hart Woodbury Heights NJ, and Sarah J. Hart Clayton, NJ; Cousins raised with him Arnett Harrison Brooklyn, NY; Yvonne Pierce-Harrison Vineland, NJ, Dolly Key Bridgeton, NJ. Lifelong friend Willie Baker Washington, DC; Godchildren Kimberly Baker and Keith Baker, DE., and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

PRECEDED IN DEATH

Parents Willie and Inell Seabrooks, Daughter Rhonda Gail Seabrook, Siblings John Seabrooks (Delores), Ella Wease McDonald, Wilmer Nell King (John), Father and Mother in laws Raymond and Janie Burrell, Diane Fountain (Lynwood), Raymond Burrell, David Burrell, the recent loss of niece Olga Leticia Seabrooks, and special sister-in-law Judith Nichols, and many other family and friends.
